I am after leaving my provisional license expire. It expired this May just gone. I was just wondering will I have to resit the theory test or can I just re-apply for a new provisional license? I'm on a J1 so I cant go into the license office to enquire. Any help is much appreciated

This is from the application form

If your learner permit has expired for 5 years or more you must start the process afresh and will be considered a new applicant and must resit the theory test

    You're grand

You have nothing to worry about. The expired permit will be renewable for five years after it expired. Once you get back, you can take care of it and you won't have to resit the theory test. If the permit that just expired was your first ever permit, it's a walk in the park to renew it, especially if all the personal details (address etc) haven't changed.

You may need to bring some supporting documents if you've moved house, or want to update a name for example or if this will be your third or more permit- you may need to bring proof of having booked a practical test. However, there's plenty of time to sort it out.
