Beside a river in Co Clare; sat still for long periods on this rock without budging (almost like it was injured). When I came back with a camera there was a second one who flew away, so snapped a couple of shots (from the bridge above where it was) & retreated - this was the best quality one I took. As I walked away I saw this one take flight itself, so not injured after all (or so it seems). But I cannot identify it

Sorry cant post photo for some reason - will try again later

Wheres the pics you shot ? The only clue you give is ''That is was a bird''
Need a bit of info. Colour size etc. I will take a stab it was a Heron. Long legs long beak 16'' high

    Hopefully this gets it

About the size of a starling

Wild guess, without photo but based on behaviour - Dipper

Haha - trouble with the upload. I can safely say it wasn't a heron :)

Photo is there now - not a dipper. Too big. This was large starling size

As Srameen suggested, it's a Dipper.

Seriously? Dippers I have seen in the past are somewhere between a wren & robin size.

I stand to be corrected, but this was a lot larger than what I have seen in the past which was why I didn't even consider it

Dipper all right, probably a juvenile https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipper

OK - I do stand corrected then. Thank you

Maybe when I have seen dippers in the past they have been further away ... like Dougal's cows

It's certainly not a juvenile as it has the white throat and breast.

Used to regularly see them when picnicking near the Dargle bridge in Enniskerry many years ago. Fascinating to see them walk underwater.

Excellent. Note the juvenile doesn't have the distinctive white breathe and dark upper body.
