Problems with Used Car

I bought a two year old car from a dealer and have had it for almost a year now with no issues until May when it started losing power all of a sudden and burning oil with loads of smoke out the exhaust. It turned out the turbo was gone and had taken out one or two other parts with it. This was fixed under the original three year warranty in my home county as agreed to by the garage we bought it from. Two days after we got it back it refused to start and was towed back to the garage where they said a pipe on the turbo had come off. This was fixed back on and now three weeks later the engine coil has gone. The warranty from the dealer ran out as it was for three years but the warranty from the garage where we bought it is still relevant. I am just wondering can anyone advise what our rights are. I have really lost faith in the car now and have been stuck on the side of the road in the country three times now with a baby and young kids. I would argue the car is not fit for purpose and wonder what other problems await us when the warranty runs out shortly. Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Is it high mileage? Any reason to think it was clocked?

No it's around 45k km. Did a car check on it before buying and the garage would have a decent reputation. Can't believe we're having so many problems with a car that's just three years old.

Dealer warranty probably engine and box only, not sure it would cover a coil.

Talk to the garage if they are decent , maybe they'll swap it for something else

Might want to check out who told you the coil went in it tbh, as there's no coil in a tdi.

Have you been bringing it back to the same garage/mechanic every time?

What coil are they talking about on a diesel engine?

Sorry it's the starter motor they think is the problem (if I have the part name right).

I have been bringing it back to the main dealer in my local city all three times.

The way I see it you have a few options:

    1. Since it's still under warranty from the dealer you bought it from then you will need to bring it back to them to remedy.
    2. If the above dealer is too far away from you then either ask them if they would be willing to pay a local garage to fix it. Most won't do this however.
    3. Forget about the far away dealer's warranty and pay to have it fixed yourself.
    4. If you have really lost confidence in the car and don't want it anymore then you'll have to move it on and potentially take the hit.
