I'm looking to purchase a jeep up north but the price is plus vat. Will I need to pay the vat if the jeep is exported to ROI? I am not Vat registered here so i'd imagine i'd have to pay the vat here, just don't want to be paying it twice

Yes, you pay the VAT in the North, you won't have to pay more VAT here.

If you are vat registered, should you not pay the vat in the north and that's that, or is there alternative issues with this ?

I've been hearing and reading mixed responses to this some saying you shouldn't have to be charged vat and some saying you should but to reclaim it again, seems silly to give it just to get it back

If jeep is older than 6 months or has over 6000 miles on the clock, then you just pay the VAT up there and that's it. (As you are not VAT registered - if you were you wouldn't need pay the VAT in the first place) When you import it to Ireland, you just need the receipt showing you paid the VAT elsewhere

If the jeep is new, then you pay the VAT in the north, import it to the south, pay VAT on it here, go back to the UK garage with your receipt for the VAT in the south, they refund you the UK VAT and then that's that. (Again, if you were VAT registered, you could then reclaim the Irish VAT back at this point)
