I myself cancelled when the price went up to 53,
Got out of my contract doing this. Was without broadband for few days after notice expired and eir rep call to the house and offered 18 months @ 45 pm unlimited broadband Inc phone ( that we won't use) great that the eir sports are included now.

I don't care about the sport channels or uk calls but my problem is eir(still waiting for efibre and their 6 weeks last like 3 months now;) or vodafone as i'm living in small village. For me now it would be €67

I was on the eir unlimited broadband and off-peaks calls @ €50pm, got the letter regarding the "free" eir sports and contract change to €57 pm(extra free mins thrown in as well). As I don't use the home phone anyway, this was no use to me. Rang them today and switched to unlimited broadband only, they quoted €50pm, I mentioned online promotion(bonkers.ie) for €45 pm on 18month contract and they gave me this. Also have free eir sports as long as I am a broadband customer of eir. Happy enough with that, but it might not suit everybody.

Where are people leaving to for broadband?

eir's price increase is because open eir have raised the wholesale prices. So every provider will be raising their prices or making up the difference somehow. The reason is because resellers were using the broadband element to route phone calls over the Internet, so that they wouldn't have to sell on eir's more expensive phone service. This increase is to correct for the loss of revenue accrued from the phone services.

If you're thinking of leaving eir/whoever provides phone to you for a different provider, check out the broadband forum before moving, as you may end up regretting moving.

I had a TV, phone and Broadband package was going up to 83 per month from 77 (25 a month for 6 months into offer) and to be honest was delighted when I got the letter because the TV is awful and was looking to cancel..

Just off the phone with them and they gave the broadband and phone for 45 a month (new 18 month contract) and its not an intro offer so it stays at 45 per month for the full contract, price freeze until Jan and if they increase the price again it can be cancelled.

Was going to swap to sky for the 45 a month deal so this was perfect, no loss of service and from what I can see the other cheapest broadband is 40 a month with VF and their fibre wasnt great the last time I had it so for the first time in a while I was happy with a call to a telco customer care team haha! :)

When I rang Eir last Friday after receiving my letter, they made absolutely no attempt to keep me or make me an offer.
Was facing into a monthly charge of €62 and I am out of contract. Sky have offered me €40 per month for the same package.

Unreal - I'm already paying 60 per month for my 6Meg boradband and unlimited mobile and landline calls here in the sticks.
Now its going to go up to 65

Are Pure any good ? Never heard of them until the last post...
Or are there any other recommendations for "non-eir" suppliers ?

I'm more afraid if things stop working - how good are the others (ie. non-eir) at fixing technical / exchange issues (probably eir that does this actually, but do you get dropped to the bottom of the list of you're not an actual customer...)?

Would there be any difference between Eircom and Vodafone from a speed perspective as they both use the same infrastructure?

Most other providers are resellers of Eir's infrastructure. So if you are getting 5mbps with Eir, then you are likely going to get the same with the other guys. If there's a technical problem, your new provider will have to contact Eir to repair.

Re Pure, they have slightly better rates than Eir. Currently there is a special offer for their service via www.onebigswitch.ie. Have a look there and see if it suits you.

Currently with Eir. Package is Eir broadband solo (No Phone), I pay 45 euro a month, standard broadband no Fibre.

Anyway in a Live chat with an Eir agent today I asked am I able to upgrade to Fibre power broadband, since I was aware the work was being done in my area. They said yes and at no additional cost. However in the subsequent email with the engineers appointment it was a second email saying thanks for upgrading your bundle to 'eir base', which according to the email it'll cost me 32e pm for 6 months and 52e after. All in all it's an extra 7 quid from Jan 2017 but I wasn't told that by the agent in the chat. Still I would be ok with paying the extra 7 once I am getting Fibre power broadband.

Wondering is 52e the standard for Fibre power broadband with Eir anyway?

Keep a close eye on your bills, i went to switch in February after their last price increase and they offered me the same package as i was on for a reduced price of €45, so i stuck with eir.
I never received the same package, they removed my free mobile minutes and never applied the direct debit discount. I have had to contact them every single month about it and have been told so many different things, it is just unbelievable. They have since tried to claim they have no record of me being on a new contract - despite the fact i have a bill from february stating otherwise, an email with the order number for the new contract and receive an 18 month discount that is due to expire in August 2017 (which means it began in February 2016). I wouldn't believe a word they say to me over the phone again as it appears they will offer anything to keep a customer. Looking forward to hearing back from comreg!

I rang Eir just now and the best I could ge tout of them was €3 less per month for the next 12 months.
So basically they would still be putting up the price by €2 per month
    Pointless.
I may try again in a bit and see if another agent can offer anything better

Has anyone else not yet been notified? I contacted them over their chat service but they said I'd be notified if there would be an increase. I've been a customer for over a year, so would definitely be included in the increase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,285 ✭✭✭tfitzgerald

I've heard nothing from eir. I am only on the slow broadband If I want to to sign up to fiber the cheapest deal I cab get is 77 Euro a month and

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,808 ✭✭✭Bawnmore

We're on Eir Fibre, but I've heard nothing yet. Tbh I wouldn't mind shopping around, but there's not point if it's not being increased I guess as I can't get out of the contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭niallam

I'm a business customer and we were notified a long time back about increases.
Have 3 locations, multiple lines, isdn lines, broadband, phone systems, 12 mobiles.
And know what you get from Eir? Nothing....
They actually treat everyone the same, doesn't make any difference if your bill is €600 a year or €16,000 like me, they don't care about customer retention and don't offer what you'd call a "deal".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,196 ✭✭✭deadl0ck

So best I could get out of them was to stay at my current price and new 18 month contract.

They really try and catch you out, so watch out what they offer over the full length of the contract.

My current contract is €62 per month.

The "loyalty" team seem to be better able to give discounts - direct number for them is 1800 312 012 or (01)701 5694

    1st offer I got was
Unlimited Boradband, Unlimited Landline, Unlimited Mobile and Unlimited UK Landline and Mobile calls
    9 months @ 60 p/m = 540
    9 months @ 70 p/m = 630
    Total = 1170

2nd Offer when I refused above was
Unlimited Boradband, Unlimited Landline, Unlimited Mobile and 60 mins UK Landline and Mobile calls
    12 months @ 64 p/m = 768
    6 months @ 67 p/m = 402
    Total = 1170

So 2nd offer sounded like a better price, but is actually the exact same and it's for a worse package - very sly they way they tried this...

So final offer was current bill for 18 months, so €62 X 18 = €1116

    I'll still shop around though

So baaad comparing to virgin deals

going to share my current package and offers from loyalty

currently on eir play at €79 pm on an 18 month contract 5 months in
    unlimited broadband phone and tv
currently the tv is free for 12 months so a saving of €15 plus €2 discount as on DD.

    so really paying €62

under the new set up I will be paying €6 pm extra.

the best loyalty could do if I recontracted was a €5 discount pm for 18 months

but if I recontracted I would not get the free tv promotion for 12 months again only for 6 as the same promotion cannot be re applied to my account.

I declined the offer and will shop around.

I attach a pdf of eir promotions and what is currently available, have a look at it. Some packages such as option 3 in no 18 can apply €120 credit to your account.

I'm in the sticks so don't have fibre option so only "NGB" (DSL) broadband.
    It severely restricts my options
I'm also wary of moving away from Eircom as I often have problems with the line and I'm not sure how responsive they will be if I'm not a customer and someone like Vodafone passes on the problem to them....

EDIT : Also - I work from home 2 days a week and and am VPN'd into work network and into remote systems I'm working on, so I'm quite quite wary of rocking the boat too much....

I know-moved out from Sligo Town so on same boat:(

From what date is the price increase coming into effect? I am waiting on this months bill to be sent to me, issued on the 8th I think. I read that you are meant to receive 30 days notice of the price increase - is this letter coming with the bills?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭loki7777

    No.Separate letter.

I rang Eir recently to cancel account to go to sky - before the recent price increase (was paying €60 - sky €40 for 12 months). Again no effort was made to retain my business - happy I went to sky after dealing with Eir customer service

Does the price increase allow you to break your contract with them ? I'm about 10 months into a 18 month contract the service is bad I want to move !

Yes you can cancel without penalty

waiting for my DSL connection from eir to become live tomorrow after ordering on the 7th and receiving modem on 12th and start the 14day cooling off period. Virgin media on 30 day notice until the 28th so can test both side by side.

I got my letter today!! My current package is €55 a month which would increase to €60 per month. Rang eir and they offered a €5 discount for 12 months with a 12 month contract. So basically staying the same! Now I live in a rural part of Longford so no chance of fibre broadband so I was just wondering if anybody living in a rural area has changed from eir to sky? What's the service like? Is it like changing your electricity provider i.e everything stays the same just a different company name at the top of the bill?

I'm currently with Sky on ordinary DSL broadband in the sticks. I was with eircom and Vodafone before that and found no difference in the broadband with any of the providers. The only difference I can see is the modem and price.

Had eir for 5 days downloaded 25gb as use broadband for TV service. May cancel during cooling off period and try Virgin medias 30 day contract at 50euro a mth as I'd be paying 45e to eir and only getting about 12MBs speeds over ethernet and they don't plan on offering fibre to my place anytime soon eventhough I'm less than a mile from Galway City
