Merlin Park Woodlands Galway rezoned for development

    came across this article in the Irish Times where
    A majority of councillors agreed to a revision in the draft city development plan which would allow Galway Hospice to build on a seven-acre site within Merlin Woods, which had been zoned for recreational and amenity use.
    The sale is contingent on planning permission.

    The Friends of Merlin Woods have a Facebook page claiming that
    Approx 83/84 acres of Community Facilities Land available for developing on within the hospital complex so why would HSE offer up Public Recreational and Amenity Land ?

    Have to wonder at the complete disregard (imo) by councillors for an old city woodland?!? :confused: Lots of other less expensive sites for a hospice in Galway, strange really.
