    Curious about something.
Based on a thread in Banking (using phone so cant link).
If someone is no longer capable of carrying out a role for medical reasons but another role is now available elsewhere in the company.
For someone who meets the criteria for that role would/should they be offered it?

If they were offered the alternate role and they refused what would their status be?

Assuming small company with few employees.

If offered another role which they refused, the company could get rid of them.

    Thanks and good luck.

There may be an obligation under a redundancy situation, but this doesn't sound like a redundancy.

The other job may have different conditions such as pay, which the person would have to accept. But, as it's a different position I don't think the company would be under a legal obligation.

No obligation to offer the alternate role.

Only case where an alternate role would be offered is if the employee would actually be effective in the role as it would be simpler and cheaper than recruiting from scratch. And only if the medical condition did not constrain the other role to the detriment of the business.

If offered (generous) and refused then contract would likely be terminated.

But in a small business if the employee is considered one of the "family" then there may be more scope for flexibility.
