Old Java versions removed but what about..........

    A lot of advice circulating in PC security circles about uninstalling old versions (and some would go further and remove the current version) of Flash and Java (stupidly installing an update up to now hasn't removed the old versions) in order to reduce ones vulnerability to hacking/malware.

    So far so good but looking through the installed programs on my PC I see multiple versions of the following.
    "Microsoft Visual C++ 20xx Redistributable"
    "Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL server"
    "Microsoft SQL server"
    "IIS Express Application Compatibility Database" (x86 and x64)
    "Apple Application Support" (32 and 64 bit)

    Should I be worried ?

    Can you elaborate.

    Why are there multiple installs of aforementioned programs (particularly C++)
    Is there anything to be gained by removing some of them ?
    Will doing so do any harm ?
