I presume you're shouting "upyaboya" at impact? Adds about 30 yards.

im no expert but if you are talking about hitting it off the deck i was having same problem. i moved the ball to just forward of middle of stance and swing easy. now its one of my favourite shots. hope it works for you. worth a try at the range anyhow. let the club do the work

I know how you feel. Very hit and miss with it myself. Its the only club i have trouble with off the deck

Have the ball beneath your left pec for a rh golfer. Thorax behind the ball so your hitting it level or slightly (ever so!!) up. Your trying to skim the grass or take a small divot. Rick shiels does good tutorials on YouTube

What do you do if you don't have pecs???

Most try and hit 3 wood too hard so swing a little easier.
Also very important to maintain posture , keeping handle low and your ass back through impact ie. No early extension

My tip, leave it in the bag and use an iron!! If you can't hit it consistently use the lowest iron you can. What the point in wasting a shot if you top a 3 wood or you hook / slice it. I use my 5 iron for all my second shots on par 5's, at least it goes where i aim!!!

I have the same swing for every club. My setup may vary but the swing is essentially the same.

Do people try and swing differently depending on the club in their hand?

They demonstrate this with a driver, but the principle is the same

The 'sternum' (the vertical chest bone) might be a better reference point/line than the thorax, which is strictly speaking your entire trunk.

yea, but if you practiced hitting a 3 wood or even a 5 wood off the deck, then maybe those par 5's could all of a sudden become a hell of a lot shorter.

I don't have much problem hitting any club off the deck. And in general, I don't go about hitting any club much different to any other, except the lower down I go, the further the ball goes back in the stance and the nearer I stand to it.

OP. Get a lesson is my advice. not being smart, but without knowing anything about your game, you will get all sorts of mad advice on here. A pro will give you the best advice when he sees how you hit it.

    +1

And most amateurs will hit a 5 wood as far as a 3. Even if not, the extra forgiveness a 5 gives you is worth sacrificing a few yards for.
I've never struggled with woods of the deck (find them easier than long irons), but I've added loft to my 3 wood to make it more like a 4 woods. Much easier to hit.

My biggest improvement with the 3 Wood off the ground was putting a lot of weight on my right foot (right handed golfer).

It felt weird the first few times but it works a treat now.
