Hedge Funds career opportunities

After a series of career moves and time spend travelling, at college and out of work, I now work in Hedge funds for State Street in the transfer agency dept. i have been there nearly 10 months now and although the role i am in is ok, its is not where i'd like to be long term. I want a role where i can talk to people and clients/investors more, as i am more of a people person rather than back office. I don't believe that moving within the company will be easy as i am in a department that has a high staff turnover. Also my salary is very poor almost at entry level. I would like to make a return to retail banking but a lot of decent opportunities require APA qualifications, something that i am in the process of getting - first two exams in september.
I am considering looking to another funds company for opportunities in either TA or compliance. Can anyone recommend a good company to work for? Bank of America seem to have opportunities and are close to my home… Much obliged.
