Mowing in 540e

Could I safely mow with a 5'6" drum mower in 540e with 85hp? Don't want to do any damage to mower or tractor (just curious) as I thought it be easier than having the engine roaring

I'm not sure. Possibly could. I used to bale for a man that used run the balers in 540e.

Yes, I do it here all the time. Just be a little careful when engaging the pto, increase the revs slowly and keep at a steady rpm when in operation. Take care not to operate at too high a speed .

Is there 540e on your massey jimmy?

Not directly, 540 and 1000 rpm pto options. However when in 1000 rpm there's a mark on the tractor rpm dial which indicates when the pto output is at 540. Hope that makes sense

I may stick to the regular 540 to be on the safe side

Ya I know what you're saying. It's at very low revs tho, 12 or 1400 rpm off the top of my head.
I tried it a few times with the amazone spreader but found it difficult to maintain steady revs on hilly fields.
540e is the one feature I wish my massey had.
    It has everything else;-)

Have them 43 series a pto brake and separate clutch? That's the only thing I'm not fully familiar with in the NH. When starting the topper or Smth heavy she takes off like a rocket and then stops it fast as she can. I'd prefer to be able to feather in heavy implements and let them free to a stop

No, similar to nh. I always ease down the revs slowly to idle before stopping the pto. Its fairly gentle stopping and starting to be fair.

Yeah I do the same, ie; start and stop in idle. Just can't imagine starting a muck spreader or something that needs high torque to get it going
