    Not sure if this is the right forum if its not move it.

    I am interested if anyone is a host family for spainish students?

    If so how much a week is normally paid, and how many weeks of the year do you host?

    How many kids do you take?

    I know someone who hosts students, 140.00 per week, provide breakfast. Not sure about tax etc.. you will need to contact revenue directly.

    I would argue that it falls into the rent a room scheme so would need to be disclosed to Revenue but would not be taxed unless you breached the threshold.

    If they're there 3+ months yes. But for the ones over summer only, it's taxable IMHO.

    Ah ok. I think I would argue that with Revenue if the issue arose during an audit.

    Irish families have been hosting foreign students in the summer for a long time. Has anyone ever declared the income? Has Revenue ever gone looking for tax?

    If there was ever a crackdown of this, it would be the end of foreign kids coming to learn English here. Those kids spend here too. Mostly McD's, Penneys and Carrolls I know, but spending all the same.

    Whoever's bank account the cash is lodged into. Jointly if it's a joint account, or you're paid in cash.

    That is not true. Otherwise I would be getting all of my clients to lodge dividends and rental income into their wives/kids accounts. Ownership is the key. Doesn't really matter though as rent a room is just a disclosure with no tax due.
