All good looking men, women and kids, bar the fat, short, bearded twat in the kilt and the Irish flag. Is this what we are seen as outside of Ireland?

Haha he looks like a ginger dwarf.

I doubt that's what they think we look like collectively. It's an ad, they're looking for iconic stuff, I wouldn't get too upset about it.

Depends, is he waving a flag and bouncing a football? That's the current view of the Irish at least :D

I said good looking, not attractive.

There are no other caricatures in the rest of the whole ad- so I wouldn't see it as looking for anything else iconic. Everyone else is wearing their country colours/facepaint, bar the Swedish lad with the hat- but even that is not as bad as the leprechaun.

I suppose I should be glad he's not changing a nun's car tyre on a train while singing the rosary*.

That poor kid in the No. 16 jersey has a severe case of gigantism!

Brilliant OP. Got a good laugh out of that when I needed it.

It's definitely how I imagine that we are perceived abroad for sure. He's a mystical looking leprechaun in fairness. All he's missing is the pints of Guinness in the hand to complete the stereotype.

How much of other peoples' debt did we agree to repay? Damn right we should be caricatured.

Correct, the majority just think we're British/English not Irish.

I think we have a bad case of negative self image tbh. I know from first hand experience the French like us a lot and a fair few of them would love to move here because they have thus idealised view of the place. However once some of them get over here and realise how expensive it can be they leave rapidly. Some however do stay because for some reason they really like the place.

They really should have had identical twins to represent The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland - looking exactly like this guy, but one being really smiley and the other very grumpy. Maybe with a drum. :pac:

Makes sense, as France is so cheap isn't it?

    France is, Paris isn't.

Same as judging Ireland by Dublin prices.

France is cheaper yes, the only thing that probably isn't cheaper is beer/spirits in bars and restaurants.

It's not really cheaper, apart from healthcare.

The main gripes I hear from Frenchies who move here is the cost of renting. Some I know want to buy and are absolutely shocked by the cost and the standard of housing in Dublin. Healthcare costs and waiting times for consultations and tests is another common theme of criticism. Then you have the usual stuff of not being able to get their beloved brands in Ireland (which tbh you can if you look hard enough but then they will complain about the price of them :))

Hey, at least the ginger dwarf wasn't pissed off his face, 'cause that would be really insulting.

I think the OP is thinking way too much about what's going on in that video. FWIW, I reckon there's quite a few countries missing out or that are pushed to the background, who knows what caricatures they had for them?

I've had to explain the difference a number of times to people on the continent. I suppose the confusion arises because we share so many customs and traditions and are of similar genetic stock.
