    Hi all,

Was just wondering what prizes you have won for winning a competition? Is there any good ones in your club weekly?

Most clubs I know offer an item from the pro shop as a prize on the day, but if you don't collect it you will get credit to spend in the shop. In Greystones we don't do vouchers but all have a Pro-Shop account, so let it build and then get something really nice :D

    Mostly vouchers.

My favourite prize came from a club I was previously in the UK. I won a mid-week stableford and the prize was a voucher which - keep your minds out of the gutter - was redeemable with the sponsor's wife!

She was quite a gifted artist and the voucher was for a painting of any hole or part of the course you liked. At the time you had some who complained about him being a cheapskate, but I thought it was a fabulous prize as I ended up with a lovely watercolour of my favourite hole - a par 4 from an elevated tee with the green in a hollow surrounded by dunes, a very traditional looking links hole. Still have it, and every time I look at it I want to go back and play it!

It's probably the only prize I haven't sold, given away or dumped (or consumed!).

You know yourself, you'll always some who are not happy - they're going to whinge no matter what!

I've one one voucher at club level ever!!!!!

Society golf has been much kinder, best probably being set of crystal whiskey tumblers, which I use far too often but always tastes better when I remember the 40 points around Enniscrone that got me them!!

Our club give vouchers which can be uses in pro shop, taken off your membership or used in about 25 shops/business in the area, those business are the ones who sponsor club comps during the year, so range from petrol stations to painters & decorators.

I won our Captain's Prize this year and it was not the normal glass ware, it was a Waterford Crystal whisky decanter with a silver stopper stamped from 1916.

    Realy liked it

As a matter of interest folks, how far down the order does your club go with the prizes. Mine goes down to 4th, best gross and best back nine.

    Is that the norm?

All vouchers although I only had one outright win and a few places. Once I got a small figurine for a category price on an open week. That was nice but the win wasn't big enough to put the thing on display if you like.

Can depend on the sponsor in our place. Some provide cups / statues / medals but it's usually vouchers for local businesses, the club shop or the restaurant at the club.
