    Hi,

I notice that the default gateway on my Vodafone router has changed from the normal 89.xx.xx.xx to 10.8.15.1

    Anyone know why this is?

The setting is located in status>device>WAN>network

Is it anything to be worried about?

    Thanks....

Maybe they are handing out private IP addresses now. Most people wouldn't be affected by that, or even notice it, but if you need a public IP address, I guess they would have to give you one, if you ask.

Is your WAN address still a regular public v4? If so they've just altered their IP topology a bit(probably for the TV product).

So, that would be the case if you can see a public IPv6 address and a private IPv4, which is then NAT'ed to the global IPv4 network? Do you know is this widely deployed?

Virgin Media do it. Not sure about Vodafone yet.

Sorry what is that? Is it located in the same section on the router? I'll check later. I thought it may be wrong and kept re-booting the router until it came back to the 89.xx.xx.xx gateway. Does it matter that the gateway is no longer 89.xx.xx.xx?

Try going to http://www.test-ipv6.com and see what the results are.

    If its gone from:
    IP: 89.X.X.X
    DG: 89.X.X.X
    to
    IP: 89.X.X.X
    DG: 10.8.X.X

Then that's fine. It'd actually f'ck with enterprise setups in some cases but that's a nice.

If the internet IP is now a 10. then its a whole other story.

    The IP was never 89.X.X.X

The internet IP is 109.78.X.X now. It was previously different no's as it changes normally overnight.

The primary and secondary DNS in the router both start with 89.X.X.X

The numbers were just examples, they're public blocks.

    Its nothing to worry about.
