    Hello all,
Looking out for a car for my Dad at the moment. Max budget €8k.
Was considering the Kia Sportage and found a nice one linked below.
    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/kia-sportage-automatic-crdi-gs-diesel-huge-spec/12463564

All good until I seen the quoted tax on the advert.. €1200 for a 2.0 diesel.
    Surely this cannot be right.???
It basically makes that car unsellable.
    1. Are they any good?
    2. Is that tax rate correct?
    Thanks all.ðŸ‘

That model looks ancient now compared to the one that went after it, the newer model came out in 2010/2011. The car will have zero resale value because of the tax and it being automatic diesel where expectations would be chaaaappppppeeeee tax.

Tax is correct, emissions on that engine and automatic were high.

    so tax is €1200

check motortax.ie and look up rates it will show for you.

It's €1200 because of the high co2 rating of the automatic version. The manual version is €750. Not all post 2008 diesel cars are cheap to tax.

Regarding the Sportage, it's the old model that was on sale since around 2005 before there was any talk of emissions or cheap motor tax. Anything around 2010 especially auto would have just been old stock left over that dealers had to register and take a hit on. The new model arrived in 2011 with a lower emissions 1.7 diesel engine though the auto was still 2.0 litre. The Sportage and Hyundai Tucson were pretty much the same vehicle with different badges.

Does he specifically need/want an automatic? Something like a manual Nissan Qashqai would be a lot cheaper to tax but the flip side is they will cost more to buy.

    Incredible. That model is unsellable!
The example I linked will do well to fetch the asking!
In terms of my dad's requirements, I'm not sure he even needs a diesel. He is doing approx 10k miles per annum.
Currently driving an '08 1.8 diesel Mondeo. Both parents find it big, which to be fair it is.

Hard to find any post 2008 petrol crossovers for sale here. If he is happy in a petrol then he should look at a Nissan Qashqai or maybe Juke. Plenty of them around and they are shorter than a Mondeo.
