Few questions regarding VRT and motor tax.

I'm looking at getting a Focus ST (2006-2011), but replacing the 2.5 engine with a 2.0 or smaller. I want a project, something interesting and possibly some savings.

If the engine is swapped before it's brought into Ireland, could the VRT potentially be cheaper?

Can a 2.5L car be changed to a 2.0L (or other) for motor tax purposes?

It will be classed as original engine co2 rating as per logbook.

    But if it's pre-08?

Then classed on engine size original car had, won't matter what engine you add before vrt process.

Which is why I asked would changing the engine officially before it's imported affect that. Would it be imported as a 2.0L ST?
