Home Care Package (HSE)

I work as a HCA.I visited a client recently granted the homecare package. The care plan stated hygiene, some assistance and light house hold duties. This person lives in an expensive house & is washed/dressed when I arrive. I am asked to feed & walk the dog! The client has 2 hours daily, 7 days a week.
I have another client with Parkinson's disease. This person struggles daily to get in/out of bed. Mobilising for this person is deteriorating rapidly. Yet this person has been refused extra hours from the HSE? Where is the justice in this? This person has 1 hour daily.

It's done by a case by case bases, my dad gets one hour per day 6 days a week too, he suffered a massive stroke 15 years ago but does have some mobility. My mum passed away over 3 years ago so essentially my dad lives at home alone and is disabled.

He doesn't require assistance ie washing etc my sister and I assist with that.. Again the lady who comes feeds his dog and cat.. Does washing up. Makes sandwiches..

There are other circumstances you may not know about.. Ie who lives with these people, other carers at home etc, are they a long term patient etc.. Loads of variables.

I hope as the second person get worse their needs will be addressed and they will get more help. It's a very difficult time for them X

Sorry to hear about your mother and I hope your dad improves. Thanks for the reply. I understand the first person I mentioned is not entirely healthy, I just wish the HSE hours would be prioritised more effectively. Care plans need to be revised more. I genuinely have no objection to helping clients with pet care.
Best wishes for you and your family x

you know what i found to be very honest with you, its all down to who shouts loudest. As in its up to the persons family to be more proactive in requesting additional care. I know that's not fair but its the truth. If the family keep pestering the HSE additional care would be given.

Those who shout loudest always get their way, unfortunately. For those of you who work as a carer for the HSE, what are your conditions like? A family member has been working as a carer for years now, but the conditions are brutal. I'm not sure if its a localised or national issue. The hours are irregular, meaning that the carer could be sent at 7 am for their first call and finish their last call at 10 pm. There seems to be no coordination or fairness in how clients are assigned. The carer is also sent on a 45 min h=journey for a 30 min call, despite other carers living in that area. Is this a nationwide problem?
