So my 00 punto has the power steering light on.
Steering is now heavy, mostly just at slow speed.
As many here may be aware the punto has electrical power steering.
I've checked out a few of the possible reasons, it's got a new battery so that shouldn't be it.
I've changed out the power steering motor to no avail.
I've re soldered the old power steering motor to no avail.
Anybody any ideas or know somewhere that could sort it.
    Based in limerick and portlaoise.
    Thanks

Bad alternator perhaps? They need a good supply of power to keep them happy

They connectors for the battery terminals aren't the tightest, perhaps that's causing an issue

EDIT: a quick check with the multimeter seems to show all is normal :/

I'd say go and see if there's any codes to be read.
If you get one for "torque position sensor" (IIRC) its game over. Had it happen to me. Needed the whole column replaced.

Go to a scrap yard and buy a replacement motor, or get your current motor repaired OP. That's usually all that's wrong with them.

I've changed out the motor to no avail, and also resoldered the original one again to no avail.

I'll come back later with fuses and relays to check. When you swapped out the motor, are all of the connections into the power steering ECU correctly inserted and pushed full home?

    They appeared to be yes

Sorry for the delay in replying.

FUSE F5 (60 amp) in the engine bay fuse box protects the power steering circuit.

If that is ok, confirm that the alternator is functioning.

If you are sure that power and both motors are ok, then you may have an ECU fault. You can code read to confirm what fault(s) are detected. I think I have a power steering ECU for one of those punto's. If you're near me, you can have it. PM me to let me know.
