Eir Price Change - Where to Next?

    Hi,

Just got a letter from Eir to inform me that my bill is going up €7 from 13th August. I am on eir Fibre & Talk Anytime package.

I am now looking at changing to another provider and I am looking for equivalent options. I don't have option of Virgin in my area (Tramore, Waterford) so it looks like Vodafone Home Unlimited. So my questions are

    (1) Will Vodafone Home Unlimited provide me with matching efibre broadband speeds.

    (2) How easy is it to change provider and will I be without internet access for any time?

    (3) What are peoples experience of Vodafone versus Eir re broadband?

    Thanks

The wholesale price open-eir charges the retailers is on the way up from Sept so the retail price follows - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=99919456

Vodafone use the same wires etc. as eir so there should be no difference in your broadband.

You could also try Sky and I think Pure Telecom too.

Try Digiweb. Their modem I understand has very good wifi from it. Visit http://www.digiweb.ie for more information.

With SIRO being rolled out the question is, as Vodafone is in joint venture with the ESB will they possibly place more emphasis on this.

Also leaving Eir and will be switching to either Vodafone or Sky, not sure about Digiweb reliability wise. Im going to try ring Eir first and see if they can match another provider's price before I leave but its unlikely, its hard to get them to budge.

I am now looking at changing to another provider and I am looking for the best available options, would Virgin Media be a good choice? 360Mb Broadband & Mobile World anyone using this package would you recommend it.

One thing to watch out for with Digiweb is that their telephone service is VoIP based, so if you are in an area prone to power cuts, you'll need a UPS to keep the phone active during power cuts.

On the other hand, the Fritz!Box router they provide has a lot of functionality, including the ability to handle multiple calls simultaneously with DECT phones. This caught me by surprise when we went with them and the second cordless phone started ringing when we were already on a call. The Wi-Fi range is excellent despite using internal antennas. For those who like technical info, the router has the most sophisticated diagnostics I've seen on a home router such as a DSL spectrum analyser, time lapse signal to noise dB graphs, day/week/month meters, Wi-Fi connectivity (showing the bandwidth, Wi-Fi mode, bitrate, etc. of each connected device) and so on.

Digiweb's package is €50/month and includes anytime calls to Ireland, UK and mobile #s including the UK mobiles also.

Their data limit is 350GB/month, 1/3 that of Vodafone and Eir, so may not be suitable for heavy users.

Eir, Vodafone, Virgin - they've all increased prices and they're all in the same price range.

Got a letter from Vodafone to inform me I'll be billed €40 instead of €35, which is the second increase this year - first one was from €25 to €35.

Broadband prices in Ireland are outrageous.

Going to try join Sky and get them to put it in writing to fix my price for the duration of the contract.

Wont happen, ISP always retain the right to change pricing (with notice given).

I got the Eir letter as well. Have broadband and anytime (with 30 minutes of free mobile).

From looking around, it seems hard to beat the Vodafone Home Essentials (e40 for 6 months then rises to e45). Eir want e60 rising to e65 after 6 months.

    What do you think?

Is this price increase only applicable to 'fibre' connections and not ADSL?
