    Hi All,

I have a white finish on the house (see photos attached) and am now looking to get a similar finish on some outside walls.

I am not sure if this finish was achieved with white sand or white cement or both.

Anyone know by looking at it?
If white sand are there different grades/colours/types?

    Thanks in advance!

It looks like a colour render to me, something like http://www.k-rend.co.uk/colour-swatches/silicone-scraped-texture

Agreed. It looks like a self coloured render to me too.

    Possibly machine applied?

No definitely manually applied by a plasterer in the usual way.

That's good because that means it can be replicated for this project!

Any chance you could get hold of the original plasterer? If it's self coloured render he'd probably know which brand. After that it's just a matter of getting the colour from that brand.

I had a look at that K-rend stuff. Very interesting but not what was used originally. I found an old 1 ton sling bag at the back of the garden that has "white sand" written on it but unfortunately no other details. So I don't know where it came from.

No luck getting hold of original plasterer either.

So look like it was a mixture of white sand and white cement. The "white" sand seems to be a biscuity brown colour and drys out as white on the walls.

Tried a couple of my local hardware places and they supply white sand in 25kg bags only as there isn't much demand apparently. Would end up being a very expensive job at that rate!

I will try a few more places and see if I can source it

K-Rend also do a white sand white cement mixed 25kg bags which should do, it may be worth trying a sample piece on the wall to see.

Check out Wicklow white granite sand....and decent plasterer will know this application. Pm me if you want recommendation in the Meath/North Leinster area.
