Started watching it but can't take any more of this shocking presentation by RTE. It's not in HD and the out-of-shape fat heads, faces, bodies, animals and objects is deplorable.

Shocking presentation, there's phones from 10 years ago could have transmitted better.

To be fair I watched "Bridge On The River Kwai" recently in stunning HD, that film is 1957, the field is 1990.

Don't think it has aged well, as a fillum....and I don't mean the quality of the film stock.

One of those timeless films for me, I love Sean Bean in pretty much everything so that helps, Harris is fantastic in this and John Hurt gives an incredible performance as always.

I love the play and the film is always worth a look for the performances alone.

Poor Sean Bean dies in it too like his other movies :D

I'm pretty sure he insists its written into his contract for every role he takes!

That would have been digitally remastered into HD though.

Chances are the film studio never did the same for The Field. Not much RTE can do about that.

They could show it in the correct aspect ratio though. RTE insist on stretching all 4:3 content to fit a 16:9 frame on the HD channels rather than pillarboxing it like every other HD channel does.
