I've turned 16 today and would like to go for a tractor licence.
What is involved in getting it, in terms of tests and forms and things like that. What if anything do I need to ait the test. Is is theory and practical?
    Any help appreciated.

The least you'll need is a €35, D201 application for a learner permit (available online), photo ID such as a passport, proof of PPSN, Driver theory test cert (category BW to cover cars and work vehicles), proof of address and an NDLS eyesight report. Take that lot to the NDLS office; either book or just walk in (early). Wait 8-10 working days.

Essentially, it's the same process as getting the car learner permit but you can't add the B category until you're 17, obviously. When you do get to 17, all you have to do is bring €35 to the NDLS centre with your existing permit and you're done. You don't have to (ie can't) be accompanied by a fully licenced driver as a learner for category W.

Look on the NDLS website to see what documentation is acceptable and not but if you're missing any of the above, there are alternative options that you can take advantage of if need be.

    Thanks cantdecide,
Do I need to do the theory test before I go to the NDLS centre and is there a practical test?

    Yes and no, respectively.
