Soda Bread

Having a yeast sensitivity/intolerance, I'm limited to soda bread(& sourdough which is rare enough to find!)
Any suggestions of places that do nice soda bread? This is what I've found so far-

    1. Ryans raheen (not bad!)
    2. Lidl / aldi (pretty bad!)
    3. Superquinn/Valu (not bad-but dries out by day 2)
    4. Tesco (pretty poor)
While it's not earth shattering stuff, I'd really appreciate any tips / good soda bread in Limerick or surrounding areas, such as
    5. Treats (in Newport though) really nice soda bread, but a bit of a trek!
    6. Seans bread (pretty damn good!) (in a limited number of shops)
    Thanks!

I get sourdough in the Milk Market and Eats of Eden on Thomas Street. The Urban co-op also has good selection of specialist breads.

I know this isn't what you asked, but have you considered making it?

    Seriously, it's easy to do.

Same - not sure of the bakery name, but they just inside the north entrance (Saturday only).

    It freezes really well too.

You can get sourdough in tesco and dunnes as well. There's also a Polish bakery on the Ballysimon Road by the railway bridge that does it. http://samozdrowie.ie/index_en.php

    Does Sourdough not have yeast?

Tricias on the Fr Russell road have a selection of East European Sourdoughs (Latvian/Lithihuanian etc.) they have various ryes and wheats. I get them and just checked the label, it is described as sourdough but ingredients list yeast! so maybe not suitable? They are tasty, last a while and toast nicely too...

I make my own brown bread which is very easy to make.

    The ingredients:
    350g Wholemeal course flour
    75g Plain flour
    50g Oat flakes
    15g Wheat bran
    15g Pumpkin seed
    10g Sesame seed
    Teaspoon of Bread soda
    1 Egg
    2 tablespoons of Treacle
    400mls Buttermilk

Mix ingredients then spoon it into a loaf tin

Cook at 180°c for about 50mins

Have you tried McCambridge's? They have a spelt version that's low GI and it's on offer in tesco now, 2 for 1

Hi D Belle, thanks for the info. Went to Dunnes this morning-located sourdough & same as that discovered yeast in ingredients! (Bummer!) Gonna have a go at making some, appreciate the advice though thanks!

No problem, I'll give a check if any of them are yeast free later today and report back. I just checked the one I had.
A nice scone is also a yeast free option, though I personally haven't find the shop ones that good compared to homemade!

I checked all the Eastern European breads had yeast as ingredients even the really dense ones!

Ryan's centra have spelt and honey, treacle and walnut breads that seem to have the same texture as the soda breads...so maybe not risen with yeast?
The spelt one is lovely....it has seasame seeds on top. I'm sure if you asked they could tell you which ones have no yeast as quite a few seem to have that soda bread texture.

This porridge bread is nice and easy and doesn't have yeast

Phogs recipe looks delicious though, I'd love a piece of that!

There are loads of places that do sourdough in town as people have said. Proper sourdough doesn't have any added yeast and is suitable for most people with yeast intolerances.
