Without them knowing? I have checked all my apps and there doesn't seem to be anything untoward, but just wondering, particularly re Whatsapp, and is there any way of finding out?

Probably not. Did you download the app from the play store? or an APK from the web? Chances are its fine. Messages are also encrypted now.

Probably not easy, unless you work for the CIA.

Ok, thanks. Just some weirdness, as I was Whatsapping a friend about something confidential, after which I quickly deleted the messages and my partner mentioned something. Probably just coincidence/ my "guilty" conscience

Id say it is coincidental .. unless of course your partner is a spy!

There is a way ....A guy showed me in a pub about 3 years ago .

He scanned and sent a message to one of the phones nearby and when they accepted the message he had access to their phone .

Whatsapp is encrypted end to end these days. Only brought in, in the last 6 months.

If you have a tablet, is it set up on that too? Or could your partner have set it up on another device without you knowing? I've Viber set up on our tablet as well as does my husband. Plus FB and messenger. we have separate accounts on it but no passwords on the accounts. We could in theory read each others messages if we could be bothered to.

WhatsApp is probably the most secure way of messaging someone now with it being end-to-end encryption as Alanstrainor said.

Whatsapp works through the web in tandem to the phone. You need the scan the QR code in the browser with the phone before you can use it on a pc/tablet etc

There are a lot of spy apps that can be installed directly on your phone and then hidden. Very expensive though with monthly subs. Your partner would need to have had access for a few mins to install it. They can then pretty much see everything you do, including remotely turning on the camera/phone to see what you're doing. I don't know if the new encryption with whatsapp would protect against it though.
They showed something similar on Mr. Robot last year.
If you're suspicious then use that to test. Add a fake contact to whatsapp and set up a time to meet them etc. See what happens when you leave to meet the fake person.
Or maybe just shrug it off as a more than likely coincidence and forget about it.

did you leave your phone down somewhere that they could have just picked it up and looked at it?

Have you seen the film "Unfriended" OP?
    Be afraid,be very afraid:eek:

Only joking,I'd say it would be virtually impossible for an ordinary Joe Soap to hack into your whatsapp :)

Yep u need to scan a QR code for Viber too. Itd take 2seconds to do when they are in the shower or something if you were so inclined.

Is your partner IT savvy, because it's definitely possible to put on spy monitoring software if you know how.

Just do a search on android key logger.

No, not tech savvy as far as I am aware.

I don't think the spy software is too tricky to install? I remember reading about them a few years ago. They're a bit worrying to say the least. Basically undetectable and the 'spy' can see absolutely everything you do, they just need a minute or two to set it up.
If you have any serious doubts then get a new phone.

One of the app that you can use to spy is FlexiSpy.
Just google for it. Monthly plan but a very potent software.

If you want to know more about it you can watch "State of Surveilance" with Snowden on youtube: watch?v=ucRWyGKBVzo

Are you sure he simply didn't have a nose over your shoulder when you were texting?

Or could your mate have told him what you sent?

Or have you what's app set up for a tablet or PC too?
