How to network unlock this?

Elephone P9000. The bane of my... week.

Sitting there, smiling at me with its beautiful screen, totally unusable.
: Wrong PIN - Please enter the Privacy Protection password to unlock.

The PIN from my SIM card, doesn't work. Also 1234, 0000, 8888, 123456, 000000, none work.

I remove SIM card and reboot. Still get the lock screen to enter PIN and error message "Wrong PIN - Please enter the Privacy Protection password to unlock".

I managed to eventually get to the stage where I could flash it with a new ROM, so I've just done that (very pleased)...

... and still see the network lock when I start it up.

So where to next in the unlock saga?
    • I've tried the local phone repair shop, had no clue
    • I've tried flashing a different ROM, has no effect on network lock.
    • Vodafone, my carrier, seems to only unlock phones they've sold.
    • The dodgy online unlock sites don't even list Elephone as a manufacturer
    • Elephone themselves don't like to answer support questions.
    • The seller is unresponsive.
    • I've no idea what network it's locked to.

What do I try next? Anyone want to buy a phone?

Its not SIM locked, SIM unlocked phones should never lock themselves.

Its the device protection code, an anti theft measure. Therefore its hard to reset or it wouldnt be much use.

You need to use Flashtool to wipe the lock off the system partition that normally isnt nuked even in a factory reset or ROM flash. Some indian lad has kindly obliged with a video.

Flashtool is a reputable tool for android tweaking, but I'd get it from XDA/similar to be safe.
