I'm tracking something I bought on eBay 7 days ago , and it stating its in the customs centre in portlaoise .. It was bought on eBay from an eu country so I don't understand why this has happened .. I've been buying off eBay for years an never had this happen . It cost €200 and I paid in full including delivery charges from a very reputable eBay seller . It was an electrical item . Any ideas ??

Items will still go through customs for searches for drugs and forbidden items like guns, weapons etc, perfectly normal.

Could it be that was posted from outside the EU? Also might be that the item is fake/counterfit?

If none of the above it might get release in a few days, you could try calling them or sending them a mail to ask them about it.

Rang them an to be honest a disaster , bounced around from person to person an out on hold ALOT . Item was posted from Italy so I can't see it been an issue . Just suprised the item has been held by customs .

    random selection?

everything coming into the country can get randomly checked, maybe it had an empty space that xrayed poorly and they want to open it up and check it.

maybe theres been a spate of italian hairdryers blowing up and they want to check them

maybe it was posted from the address of someone who has the same name as someone on a watch list

    the reasons are endless

    Did customs confirm this?

Many sellers are dropshipping items so it can be sent from outside the EU, you could post up the seller or the auction link to ebay.

I wonder if there was an undeclared battery in the satnav, I wondered what happens if they find one, not really customs job though.

You should be able to know from the tracking number, if it finishes posted with Itialian Post most probably follows the same format as other countries it should end on IT

End of tracking number is 6IT so I'm taking it that it was posted from Italy . Maybe I'm over re acting here . I was just a bit annoyed as it was a gift for some one an now it's delayed for whatever reason

Good to hear. Some sellers will also give fake tracking numbers but looks like yours is legit.
