    Hi all,
I joined the beef knowledge transfer scheme last week, admittedly I don't really know what its about, just got a call sayin will I join, 750 a year, 5 meetings I can nominate someone to go instead of me if I can't go, which will most likely happen as I work away during the week.
Anyone else join it or know more about it?
    Thanks

i'm joined it, you have to fill in a profit monitor & herd health plan which maybe done by your own vet depending on whether or not they have registered for it, that will cost 100 i think

And you have signed a permission form for your profit monitor to be shared with a waft of different organisations including bord bia for instance....how long before Larry has them on his desk...

    Cheap information...

If after the 1st year I decided it wasn't worth my while being in it, is there any penalties, I.e sfp or whatever? I've only a small farm and its only really a sideline to the day job. As I've said I don't know much about it, the call to join I kind of came out of the blue.

I was in it last time & a few guys pulled out after y1, think they had that years payments & no penalties

I'm not joining. I missed my last dg meeting but was told it was 2/3 in favour of joining .

Lad who told me this was also abstaining.
His impression was that if you didn't sign up there was no place in the group for him (us).

That would be a real pity . Have been a member of its various incarnations for over 20 years .

We're signed for the beef, sadly can't for the sheep, which would be invaluable

Dairy here and I'm out ,lots of dissent at it on our last meeting but turns out I'm only one that followed through and didn't sign up.some signed up and will just send a distorted pm in but participate anyway .im hoping I'll be allowed continue in group as it contains a good mix of older and younger guys varying from
40 to 120 cows and most of us are in it over 5 years

No point being too proud. I'm in. So could a lot of lads if they used their head. I haven't found €750 on the side of the road yet.

what is the cost for your teagasc fee for the year? travel to meetings/ time ..............the 750 just about will cover these, dont be looking on it as free money

It'll cover the rims on the front of my tractor ;)

I'm not with teagasc and don't have to be for this. Advisors are getting €500/member out of this. I'm worth money to them.

500 per member? How many members in a group ? Where does the money go?

Is it 15 I think though I might be wrong. Advisors could have several groups. It's Good work for them!!!! They are doing ok out of glas as well. A few hours work on each plan is all it takes.

They're probably getting roughly a grand/farmer between GLAS and KT. A nice handful of clients, flexible hours and easy pull a salary out of it after tax. More luck to them. Not a bad way to live from farming.
