If the implant fails...

    Hi all,
I had two weeks ago a surgical extraction, bone grafting and implant placement.
I was under a light antibiotic and I developed an infection.
I have been suffering quite a bit with lot of swelling.
I got a second antibiotic and most of swelling went away, but I am not that sure it's healing properly and I have some pain left...

I will have a check tomorrow (now o put the implant two weeks ago)

I have read that in case of persistent infection the implant should be removed and placed again at later stage.

Considering that I spent all my saving for this surgery... I am wondering if this is the only way to do? And will I have to pay for removal and to do everything again in few months?

I don't want to accuse the dentist.. but I followed the post surgery instructions... good hygiene no nicotine rest etc and it's not my fault if I have been put only on a light antibiotic 😞

(Apart the suffering itself and the pain now I have to far teeth/gums that were OK before... weird stuff)

    Thanks!

( Will ask to the dentist of course but maybe someone had similar experience)

Sometimes people develop post operative infections after surgery, this may or may no effect the bone integration of the implant. Certainly it would not help, but sometimes these are stitch infections and only minor.

    Best ask the treating dentist.

I have had implant fail without any sign of infection and I have had implant work just fine after some stubborn post operative discomfort. Healing in unpredictable and often random, I am sure the dentist warned you about the success and failure rates.

    Hi fitzgeme,
    thanks for your answer.
Yes absolutely I don't want to blame the dentist.
I am happy with the clinic and I had with them another implant one year ago with no problems at all.
I went today and it looks like it is healing fine, so finger crossed the discomfort I am having is going away.

As said I am not blaming what they are doing, and neither myself as I followed instructions.. I guess unfortunately these problems can happen...

I was a bit worried yesterday because I wouldn't have had the money to pay for another surgery at the moment :(

    thanks!
