Do blinds have to match?

We have recently renovated our house, new roof, all new insulation etc. Me, my Mam and my brother live in the house. We are all moving into new bedrooms.

We are now at the decorating stage! We all want blinds for our bedrooms and then curtains. My Mam is insisting that the blinds match... i.e that we all have to have the same blinds on our windows.

I don't get this... I am not sure why but she will not budge and says that this is normal and that everybody has matching blinds.

Is this a thing? I would love a nice dark blind which would go with my room but my Mam wants light coloured ones!
Is there a right and a wrong here???

All matching looks better from outside, maybe just get a neutral colour Venetian blinds that everyone can agree on, and get whatever curtains you like?

It would be the norm alright, for blinds to match! It looks better from the outside, as the previous poster mentioned!

Sure your mammy is always right! But do you know, I think I may have had this blind discussion with my mother many moons ago when I wanted a purple blind for my room!

To improve the quality of your sleep, you are best having the rooms as dark as possible so maybe get them to buy into that: You can achieve it with the curtains either.

While the looks better argument may hold some water, in this day and age I would say what does it matter.
Ps, whose house is it :)

Whose house is it is a good question!!! It is in both our names... I am a carer for my Mam and when my Dad died we got the house put in both our names.

I am 37 but still, what my Mam wants she will get!!!

I guess I don't mind having to have light ones. I did think it was just my Mam though ... she is delighted that people on here agree with her!!!

You can get blinds that are different colours on each side so one that matches all the other from the outside could have a picture / colour on the inside...
