Charger voltage question

My other half got a new phone today with a very slow 5V 500ma charger, it's as slow as a wet sunday. I have a 5V 1500ma charger from my old phone and I think this will charge her phone much quicker?

The real question is that is it the 5V bit that's the most important? 500ma and 1500 or 2000ma wouldn't damage the phone right as long as it's '5V'?

What phone? Current is what's important. Is the 500ma charger the right one for the phone? Ie did it come out of the box? Or is it a new second hand phone with some random charger with it.

You should be able to use your 1.5A charger with her phone but it may charge at the same rate. The phone should only pull the amount of current (and voltage) it is able to handle*. That could be 500mA, 1A or 1.5A.

*Providing it is from a reputable company and has sufficient power management hardware.

It'll be fine. Can't remember the last phone I got that didn't have a minimum 1a charger!

I think this is the correct answer, the current written on the charger is the maximum current that can be delivered and the phone will draw the current it is able to

Ye I'll plug it in now, I did a little bit of research there on Google and the conclusion seems to be that there should be no issues. Phone will only draw what it's capable so it won't.overload it.

So people here are right so that's good.

Use the charger that came with it if you have it. It may be a better fit which will mean less damage to charging pin in the long run.

They are all be standardised by now, except Apple, using micro USB. If a different charger from a reputable source doesn't work it'll be the phone at fault.

Yes phone is charging twice as fast or more now with the 1500ma compared to the supplied 500ma.

Motorola is trying to upsell their turbo charger by giving you a slow death charger with the G4. Marketing...

The quality is far from standardised and there's a lot of fakes out there.
