    Hi
I m currently putting down a decking area. Luckily I ve managed to get some second hand soft wood boards in good condition. When cut I can see these are well dry. I ve put down about 20 so far with no space between them. Having though about since, I wonder should I have left some space between them, incase they swell? Is it likely they ll swell?
    Appreciate some advice.

    J

5 mm or so would be a good idea, especially with soft wood, it also helps with ventilation

Yes give them space, they'll breath and will need space to do so

Defo leave a space. You'll find that there's plenty of areas that'll hold water now that the boards are butted up to each other. When I've done it in the past, I'd generally just use one of my chosen screws as a spacer to position each board with a uniform gap, approx 5mm.
