    Hi.
Wondering has anybody been to both Annecy in the French Alps and Sitges in Catalonia?

If you had a week to spend in one of these locations for a chilled out break in the sun, which would you choose?

It will be just myself and my 4 month pregnant wife FYI.
We are just looking to relax and eat nice food etc. nothing too strenuous 😀

    Thanks

Been to the Annecy area, if you take a place in menthon St. Bernard or talloires or anywhere on the lake it's absolute heaven

Apples and Oranges. Do you want peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings (Annecy) or the hustle and bustle of a Spanish beach resort (Sitges)? Both have their merits depending on what you want.

Sitges, whilst lovely, is a gay party town pumping techno out of every other bar, so for a 4 month pregnant woman, there is no doubt in my mind she'd prefer the peace and quiet of a lovely lac town like Annecy. Although i could be completely wrong about what your wife would prefer obviously :pac:

    Thanks for the replies guys.
Yeah she just wants to chill (as do I).
We were in Sitges last year & enjoyed it (we didn't partake in any nightlife & at any rate it's not like other tacky Spanish resorts).
    Annecy looks fab.
One thing that is making me hesitant is I know my wife will want to sunbathe during the day.
Ideally we normally like to do this around the pool area in our hotel rather than go to the beach.
There seems to be far fewer options for this within reasonable walking distance of Annecy town.
Ideally we'd like to be within walking distance of restaurants, cafes etc.

Thanks a lot for your responses so far

Just back from a week on Lake Annecy.

I had the same issue when originally looking into the holiday, no hotels with outdoor pools. We eventually went with staying in one of the villages (Tallories) around the lake rather than Annecy itself.

The area is beautiful, food was great, loads to see and do, it is pricey though, even so I'd go back on a heartbeat!

I have been to both places.

Annecy looks great in the photos but not as good in reality. You will see it all in less than a day. The surrounding area is good if you want to travel about.

    Sitges is......Spain.

Try Port de Pollenca on Majorca or Santa Eulalia on Ibiza.

I couldn’t disagree with this statement strongly enough! If anything, I think photos of Annecy don’t do it justice, the area down by the lake is absolutely stunning. If natural beauty is your thing, then you’d be hard pushed to do better. Yes, the old town is compact, but there are lots of nice shops, bars and restaurants. There is a beautiful cathedral, chateau and the Palais de L’isle is worth a visit. But really it’s just a place to wander around, have a gelato or a coffee and people watch. Hotels with pools aren’t really that common, there is one about a 25 min walk outside the town called Les Tresoms, but I think the walk is quite uphill, so it may not suit you. One option would be to stay in the Imperial Palace – it’s the Grande Dame hotel in Annecy and is situated right on the lakeside and a pleasant 10 minutes walk into town a long the lake. There is a beach area right next to it, where you pay a daily fee and can use the sunloungers, parasols, slides etc. It might be a bit of a budget busting option, but it could be lovely.

Would you consider renting a car even for a few days? There are some lovely areas to visit around Annecy, you could drive up to Semnoz where you have a view all the way across to Mont Blanc and Col de la Forclaz was one of my favourite spots, it has a stunning view over the lake and there are dozens of hanggliders taking off from there. It’s not overly expensive if you fancied a go yourself! Not sure how doable either of those are with public transport. Chamonix is also well worth a visit, you could go via bus easily. The Tramway du Mont Blanc or Montenvers Mer du Glace train are lovely trips to do and get you up in to the mountains without any exertion.

I haven’t been to Sitges so can’t comment on it, but we spent two weeks in Annecy last year and loved it so much, we are returning for two weeks in August
