My 2005 Saab 9-3 only came with the one key, including both transmitter and blade key.
So, in order to be safe and have a working spare, what's the most cost effective way to do this?
I can buy a used key on eBay/Adverts or I can go with a fresh key.
A transmitter plus coding is €120 from a guy on Adverts, link while an original transmitter will cost around €50 before I even get it coded to the car. other link
Seems only dealers have the Tech 2 system needed for key coding, so they are charging a fortune for what is a quick few minutes of work :(

Any ideas where I might sort this out and how much it'll cost?
    Thanks

Whatever about getting a second key to have a working spare, do know that you cannot get a new fob if you don't have a working fob already, so if you lose the fob you have then you need to replace a lot more than the fob (i.e. lots of bits in the car too) to get working again, its expensive and i wouldn't even know if thats possible now with saab the way they are.
So definatley get the fob done as quick as possible or your screwed if you lose the only one you have.
The blade can be got through the VIN number anytime.

I got a new key fob done before for a Saab off a dealer for 60euro if i remember, programming was in the price.
Tho the Same dealer wouldn't get me the blade because the car was english.

I then got the blade off a Saab dealer in kildare, didn't have to drive up either was all done over the phone the blade was 120 i think.

Did you shop around?, I'm not sure how many saab specialists are around now tho.

Both ads seem reasonable to me as regards costs. I would not advise buying a secondhand fob as they can only be matched to the cim module once afain.

If you have no key the cheapest option is to buy a used, matched, key and cim unit but you will still need someone with tech 2 to reprogramme it to the cars ecu.

Adding a second key will be a straight forward operation for any locksmith.

The key blade is only used to open the door if the remote fob wont.

Just buy a new fob and get it programmed. That'll do the job just fine

The actual metal key will only open a passenger door. It will not start the car or anything else.
