Help putting Virgin Media Hub 3.0 (White) into Modem mode to use with old router

    Hi,

Ive been a UPC/NTL (now Virgin) customer since 2009, and used a Cisco EPC3925 router no problem until recently when it stopped working. I work from home and ever since I was "upgraded" to the Hub 3.0 Ive had issues with my job. My employers have told me they have had similar issues with other employee's who work from home who are also with Virgin, they gave me a list of ports I needed to forward on the Hub but this is impossible as this hub only allows port forwarding for IPV6, not IPV4.

The only other solution they said is to put the hub into Modem Mode, and plug in my old router I used with UPC from 2009 - 2011 (back when UPC only provided a modem and you had to buy your own router). My router is a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 flashed with Tomato firmware 1.27.

I have put the Virgin Hub into Modem Mode and connected my routers WAN port to port 1 on the hub, but even though I can access my routers dashboard whilst connected to the hub, the router is not getting an internet connection from it. DHCP is enabled on my router, but no internet. Ive read conflicting information about which port the cable needs to be going from, Virgin say the one closest to the Coax which would be port 4, but all the guides from other customers in similar situations on Virgins official boards say port 1, Ive tried both with no luck (I assume its 1 seeing as that is what I had to plug it back into to switch it back to router mode).

Please help, and thanks in advance.

Virgin in Ireland are implementing something called DS-lite, where you share a IPV4 address with a large number of other people. This causes serious issues with a large number of applications. You need to contact them and have them remove you from this scheme. Then you can either use the Hub or get your own device.

As Cuddlesworth said, if you receive a new modem from VMI it prompts the DSLite change. With CGN you cant bridge over a v4 WAN address so it just breaks.

Contact the reps on here(They have a talk2) or twitter and they should fix it within 24hrs.
