Stupid question

Ok, apologies in advance for the stupid question and if this is the wrong forum.

For whatever reason I cannot swallow tablets whole, I just cannot do it, makes me almost gag - yes I know, very sissy of me.

So I revert to having to chew them a bit.

Would this chewing of tablets before swallowing lessen the effect of them. i.e. Should they be swallowed whole for the table to do its job properly.

It depends on the tablet - some need to be swallowed whole as the ingredients could cause damage to the oesophagus, some will indeed be rendered much less effective by chewing and some it won't make a difference. Your best bet is to ask the pharmacist if there's an alternative or whether particular tablets can be chewed or crushed. Many people find capsules easier to swallow

Thanks. Do you know if available in Irish pharmacies, had a look at a couple online pharmacies and could not find.

    Any idea of the price?
    Presume it's not prescription?

Being honest I can't remember, I'd be in a good few with work. If you ask in your local one they may be able to order it in for you

Just walk into a pharmacy near you and ask for it, if they don't have it in, they can order it for you from either United Drug or Uniphar. I can't remember the exact price but it isn't hugely expensive.
It is available without prescription and is not allowed on either medical card or Drug Payment Scheme.
