Can anyone confirm that these investments are essentially closed to individuals? Some posts/blogs suggesting that but can't get confirmation.

Section 481 is now closed to individuals (since 2015).

They give the benefits to the company rather than the investor now. There is similar tax schemes available like the replacement of the business expansion scheme. They invest in a few companies and give you tax relief you over 3/4 years. At the end of the period, the companies are revalued and you get the capital appreciation. There is the risk of the companies going bankrupt though.

    Appreciate the info.

Looking for a reasonably short term investment (ie 1-2 yrs), the s481s were a good deal for individuals and reasonably secure, any similarish schemes going? 3-4 years too long for what I need.

AFAIK all the handy schemes are gone. The scheme I just listed is the only decent scheme that I know of. The Government just doesnt want people to reduce their tax liability anymore. Like I have spoken to a few tax advisors and they said there is no endless lists of tax avoidance schemes like there used to be
