    Hi,

I was off work sick last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I went to the doctor yesterday and got a note off him, he also gave me next week off.

I don't get sick days paid in work so just want to see what my options are.

Can I go to my local social welfare office and claim for my days off?

    Thanks

You need to get an illness benefit form from your doctors receptionist and have doc fill it out. You get nothing for the first 6days of illness for this so you will get very little. Personal weekly rate is €188 so divide that by 5 I think for daily rate. If u are out 8days in total, you'll only get 2days payment. Its a little more if you have child and adult dependants. It might not be worth your while doing this unless you have savings to tide you over to make up for lost wages. If you don't, you might be better off taking annual leave for days missed but you can't claim illness benefit then. If you will be stuck for money for food etc and you don't have any annual leave to take, your CWO (Community Welfare Officer) may give you a small payment. You will only qualify for illness benefit if you have the required prsi contributions.

Look at DSP website. Www . welfare . ie

Thanks! Will ring the local office Monday to see the story, I don't have any holiday days left and we don't get paid for sick days
