US officials say Al Qaeda likely to be the terrorist group responsible but it could be ISIS.
It is entering the 8th hour and happened at a Spanish restaurant in the diplomatic area in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The hostage siege situation has been going on for 8 hours now, so far two people have died and 40 injured, explosives were thrown at police by the gunmen, 6 to 8 gunmen involved.

A Hindu priest was hacked to death earlier today in Dhaka. Seems violence has being increasing in the Bangladesh capital. You wouldn't know where you are safe.

This will probably end with lots of lives destroyed.

I should have added there are 20 hostages, with ISIS claiming responsibility.

Unless it happens in a place we can relate to, it won't gain much traction as a conversation piece OP. There won't be flag filters on Facebook and there'll be little talk of it in the workplace too. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, it's just how these things usually go.

Is there many Hindus in Bangladesh? Didn't realise there were any left to be honest.

Commandos have stormed the restaurant in a rescue operation - they never had to do anything like this before.

Siege has ended. It's a pity they didn't take the old wagon, Hasina, out with them. While ISIS is claiming responsibilty it's hard to know who is at the back of it. A complete clusterfcuk of a country politically where violence and brutality are an everyday occurence. The siege puts the spotlight on the country for now at least although as another poster said it doesn't resonate with many people.
