It won't have any impact on your credit rating.

The standard advice is to ignore debt collection agencies as they have no legal standing here.

You don't even owe the money so you have even less to be worried about.

If you want to seek redress from the original clinic, you will have to discuss that with a solicitor as that brings the topic into the realm of legal advice, which is not allowed here.

It's cleared up now, what else do you need to do?

Looks like a mistake was made and you got it sorted pretty quickly, these things happen.

Anyone any advice on what I can do.

Register a complaint with the data protection commissioner. Your private information was shared with a debt collection agency that had no right to it.

It won't be to your benefit but to the next guy who gets this hassle.

Would that not be your own fault?

You didn't need to take the phone call there.

the clinic passed all my details onto a debt collecting agency including my phone number, for no good reason.

Report them to the DPC and inform them that you've done so - you may get a suitable reply then.

And I am worried that it will effect my credit rating.

It won't have done anything to your ICB rating even if you did owe the cash, unless a judgement was registered. The Experian/Equifax etc ratings are far more ephemeral however - asking the hospital if their 'debt collector' reports to them and requesting they pay for a report for both due to their error is what I'd do.
