Hotel yard?

Was walking through town today & there's a short closed alley at the side of Arnotts between them and what used to be Hector Grey's (I think). The street plaque is pre 60s, the old green flat "tin" type. And says "Hotel Yard"

What hotel stood here?

Its recorded with that name in 1862 so predates the Metropole by a long shot. Its also a very considerable distance from the Metropole site which is now Penneys.

It most probably was a back entrance to an old hotel on Henry Street.
The Rev McCready's "Dublin street names, dated and explained" is no use in this instance, probably because the lane was so small.

Looking at a map of Middle Abbey/Liffey St Upper from 1880 it looks like it may have served a Hotel on Middle Abbey St called the Abbey Hotel. It looks to have been more or less where the current entrance and coffee shop are for Arnotts. The lane looks to be serving lots of bbusinesses and stabling aswell.
