Signing off to register as sole trader

I'm unemployed 2 years and there are no jobs in my field so I've decided to take my chances as a sole trader. I don't get anywhere near the full amount of job seekers so it's not really that big a risk to be fair but I'm nervous. I feel like I'm going to be dropping the bit of security I have. Of course if it works out it will be worth it.

My questions are: How do you sign off? Do you have to go in or can you ring them? Are there any supports for people coming off jobseekers and setting up for themselves, where would I find this info?

This question might be more suitable for another forum, but, how does one go about registering as a ST and looking after tax etc. I'd be making very little for the first while anyway as I try to establish myself. Not sure where to start.

    Thanks

You can sign off in your local Social welfare office or online. Would you not apply for the BTWEA? It will give you some security just incase things don't work out .

I don't know about signing off, but contact your Local Enterprise Office, they'll be able to provide access to support for start-ups. Don't do anything until you have a solid plan. They LEOs run courses for entrepreneurs where you'll also meet a lot of others in a similar situation to yourself.

Don't sign off until you are accepted for the "Back To Work Allowance Scheme"
It's rare to be refused if you have a half decent proposal.

100% payment for the first year & 75% for the second year.
You can also get a grant of about €700 towards advertising/website.

    Good luck!
