Hiring a van for a week?

Anyone know if any of the van hire companies are doing good deals on week-long rentals?

Moving house in July and will have the inevitable large run to Ikea and a few other journeys to make so it'd be handy if I could rent something for a full week or so... Was half thinking of seeing if I could just buy a bangernomics van and selling it on in a month or two but reckon that could be risky...

Any ideas on the best way to go about it?

You could lose a whole day in ikea loading and unloading! I reckon it's much handier to get them to delver it.

You still need to get there to place the order... And this alone [sometimes] takes 5 hours ;)

Watch out for insurance. Transferring your own car insurance to a van temporarily may be impossible.

Enterprise do vans + insurance. Many others don't facilitate any insurance.

I'd recommend Enterprise too. Hired a large Transit 2 weeks ago for a day but you can rent as short, (half days), or as long as you need to with them. They insured me etc. also.

    Who doesn't?

IIRC it is a requirement for rental company to provide TPL coverage. You could waive that cover if you provide evidence that you already have cover, not the ohter way round.

I've rented from Hertz, JPVanRental and Enterprise as well - all were grand.
It was only Hertz that I had to stop on the first petrol station to get wipers when it started raining. Got promptly refunded though.

    I've been that soldier :)
Not everything is out for you to pick though, you could be waiting hours for some stuff to be taken out for you.
I did 2 fitted kitchens there, one where I took a van and waited, brought each trolley down, loaded van, drove home, unloaded - and another where I just ordered everything for delivery. Totally different experience!

If you need it for a few days anyway, hire it for the week as it can work out at almost the same.

I've used Enterprise a few times and would recommend them.

Several places in limerick treated me as if I had just landed from another planet when I asked about van rental with insurance.

Might be a limerick thing rather than a van rental thing. I've got the same confused/worried "ah jaysus we wouldnt be selling that kinda thing at all at all" trying to buy relatively simple stuff in various limerick businesses.

Need to do this soon myself too, Seems reasonably cheap aswell, just wondering do you have to pay a large deposit when hiring a vehicle?

Companies who deal with businesses usually don't offer insurance, you need to transfer your commercial policy to their van. The companies you listed are mostly consumer orientated not b2b.

They put 250 on my credit card and refunded it the day I brought the van back. Standard enough.

I have used vanrentals.ie several times. Murphy's truck centre in Ballynaiunt beside the Red Cow. Great to deal with and plenty of vans. They provide insurance too. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I used Value Van Rentals for a long wheel base Transit and found them good. They're on the Old Airport Road, so not a huge drive from them to IKEA and I was able to get the van at short notice. They provided insurance and the price was quite reasonable AFAIR.
