out to grass

Well I had a log on the go on and off there for the last two years since I took up the running but as I come back from my latest forced sojourn I think it apt that I move on from that novice log and start a new one to reflect the coming glorious era thru which my sporting greatness will shine in a most splendid shineyness.
On reading the title many of you will think it means 'he must be f*cked' but the more savvy will think 'cross country maybe'..... and really let's call a spade what it is, I've decided that if I'm goin to get back out there with the immediate aim of committing to Dcm 2016 then it's gotta be done on grass (the type you tread on). This new resolution will last probably about 2 days but it's the thought that counts.

So without further ado, seeing as yesterday was day 1 (wasn't it) here's my log.....
28 June: 0 miles, worked late no time
29 June: 4 miles in the Phoenix park, 5x100m strides. On grass and trails, loved it.

Best of luck with the New Log and the DCM capers :D. Plenty of experience to bring to bear on this new cycle. What has the form and general training been like over the last 3 months?

Don't forget about our lovely grass track at the club JMSE! Almost 400 meters of lovely soft surface. I keep forgetting to head up there myself but will be training there regularly in the coming months as it's now fairly dry. Around adn around and around :p

Excellent preparation for the cross country season too ;)

Looking forward to the forthcoming "splendid shineyness." :)

    Thanks folks....

DenisB, I've been off running for the last 6 weeks till last weekend, was doing very well until mid May but had ITB-hip problem re-ignite. I've been going to DBC physiotherapy clinic in Crumlin for about a month now, they have some very interesting 'machines' there to target the areas of your body where weaknesses are showing. Its not like any physio I've been to before. Its not cheap but with their setup and my own work and stretching I'm hoping to be in a new place. So straight back and into a marathon program, I know, but week 1 is doable, we're talkin 2x3 milers and a 4 miler and an 8 mile LSR.

Firedance, I hope to follow the club plan, just need to get back down to training and have a chat with the 2 lads, get the program off them. For this week Ive just been looking at the boards plan.

Cheers Kennyg and Mulbz, cant wait for doin a 20 mile LSR on the almost 400 meter grass track :D

    Today:
30th June : 4 miles on the grass in Tymon Park after work and before physio. 33 mins.

Best of luck J. A thorough rehab and sure it didnt do the Six Million Dollar Man any harm :D although I always thought that his hair was worryingly neat.

2nd July: 8 mile long run in phoenix park, avg 8.34 per mile, great soft tracks pitches and grass, didnt find it easy, havent done 8 since last Feb. Lots of stretchin these days, not just the four I used to do, am doin 11 now, adds a fair bit of time but with the grass and proper stretching am hoping to stay out of trouble ........... [kyboshes it by saying that]

So that was last Saturday, heres the past week....

Sunday 3rd July, 3 miles in the cowpark
    Monday 4th, rest
Tuesday 5th, return to club tracknite after nearly 2 months, started on the Hanson plan on the spot and did 5 x 1k reps
Wednesday 6th, well ... Wednesday is restday for Hansonites :D
Thurs 7th, on the road with the club doin 5 mls at MP
Fri 8th, away truckin overnight so stopped and did 6 mls between Frenchpark and Castlerea on the road >:
Sat 9th, worked full day again, no energy for running [1st infringement on plan already] but legs are feeling it after the last 2 nights. 4B.
Sun 10th, 10 mls in the Phoenix Park, couldnt get mapmyrun workin on phone so just did 85mins, should be ten I'd say. 3B.

I found the 10 a hard job today, even after the days break from running. It was really about 70 mins of holding back the express train that is my thoughts - "i wont make it without stopping" , but great to look back now and know that I didnt, its what I draw on as the miles go up.

Monday 11 July: 6 miles on grass in Griffeen Pk Lucan easy
    Tuesday: tracknight 3 x 1600s
    Weds: rest
Thurs: clubnight out on the road for 6 at MP, got greedy and did 6 in 44
Fri: 6 in Griffeen again on grass
Sat: couldnt run, top of left foot gone sore since last nights 6, also pain in that bigtoe for 10 years now, I think the undulations with grass is aggravating it a bit, lots of ice and ibuprofen and voltarol and moping about it
Sun: cleaned the shed and by 6pm I gave in and headed out on the tar, staying away from grass on purpose, took a neurofen and a swig of the wifes beer and went and did what turned out to be 12 miles. Ran to Leixlip village and back and stayed at it for about 90 minutes. Foot grand, cant believe it. Note to self, stay away from grass thats not being cut too low, I think the extra work the foot goes through to balance me when offroad is giving me a bit of trouble. Pace today, no phone and no watch, but I'd say 8 mins a mile was avg.

    Keep up the good work!

You'll have to change your log title if you're not running on grass any more!
