Hi, does anyone know why there are no flights from New York (JFK) to Dublin in the morning/early afternoon? They all seem to be late evening that carries over to the next day when time difference is added on (so would spend 4 nights in NY but actually a 5th night on airplane). Thanks!
(P.s i am asking because i am planning a surprise trip for my husbands 40th and need to organise babysitters!)

Transatlantic flights going eastbound are almost always overnight. Flights West are morning/afternoon. Have never gotten an overnight flight West. Not sure why that is, think it's something to do with maximising waking time and the aircraft turning around pretty quickly

Its so you arrive early morning in Dublin.

It is to maximise the plane. You can't land a plane between 1am to 5am, so it is better to have the plane in use at that time.

Plane takes off 3pm to New York lands at 7pm

Takes off at 10pm lands at 7am Irish time

They could then use the plane for a quick flight to Spain before returning to USA.

If you did a day time flight USA to Ireland you would take off at 8am USA time and land at 8PM you couldn't turn the plane around quick enough to get it back in the USA before the airport closes.

BA do a couple of day time flights to Boston & New York but the plane is left over night as they want to offer more choice to the passengers.
