Not in country for unpaid dart fare summons

I'm not in the country and I have a court date coming up, is there anything I can do in this situation? Can I just explain it was my first day of work and I simply did not want to be late. I paid my fare every other time from October through to June(as you are supposed to of course) I completely forgot about the fine, too much on my plate with exams and stuff. Obviously human element can't be taken into account or the system would just get abused and all these services would be impossible to provide but it was a cold Sunday morning in October, the next dart wasn't going to be for another half an hour.

Can my sister or a friend go in my absence? How do I notify them? For how much would a fine usually be? Could I write to the DART offices and just pay it off? I actually thought my dad paid it for me, we had a serious mix up in communication. Can I ring them up to reschedule it for September?

Once a summons has been issued for fare evasion, the chance to pay your fixed fare ticket is no longer an option. Contact Irish Rail and let them know you are sending legal representation to plead in your absence and let them argue any circumstances on your behalf. It will cost you a few € but it may well leave you with a clean record.

Should I notify the court as to why I'm not attending? Guys I have no idea what to do. Can I write a letter to be read out saying I fully admit to the error of judgement and admit to guilt for this offence but I've been talking the dart since October of that year 4 days a week and no further sanctions indicates I have learned my lesson. I was immature not to pay it off, but I honestly thought it had been sorted.

Your legal eagle can do that for you on the day. The fact that you are pleading guilt here and are facing up to it in rather a mature manner may work in your favour on the day. I trust you are out of the country for a good reason, yeah?

I wish I could say I was, I'm just in France doing some volunteering and learning French while I am at it.

Fly over and back for the day?
