    Hi,
An Post hold my package for pay customs and VAT. The package was sent out from Netherlands.
Not sure they can hold the package and ask for pay customs if the package arrived from inside EU.

Is it a phone from one of the Chinese sites?

They are wide to the Dutch route these days...

Doesnt matter how wide they are to it, if its shipped from within the EU then there is nothing they can do with regards to extra charges ;)

A lot of the asian couriers come via Netherlands. Is it something you got on ebay? A lot of tech products will be shipped from Asia, so these will get held for import duties.

Was this a package that originated in china and was shipped via the netherlands?
Gerbeast etc sometimes do that and you will be on the hook for customs.

If you bought from NL directly then your invoice will apease the lads from customs.

Unless you know what it is don't bother collecting it, And if you do know what it is and it's not legal then don't bother collecting it.
If it's legal then they can't charge if it originated from the Netherlands, if it was routed there from a country outside the EU then they can probably charge you on it

Go to the office. It doesn't sound like a trap at all.

The 'vat due' on such dutch imports can be measuered in years or even decades rather then Euros depending on how many kilos the package weighs.....

And An Post charge €7 fee for collecting the duties due. My last package was €8 in duties, which I didn't mind paying and an additional €7 for handing that money to the postman.

And they didn't take cards either.

I bought some led lighting panels from China at what I thought was a bargain price, think it was alibaba.com.The tracking number showed they had been shipped through holland. An Post held it until I collected it and paid duty on it. I still saved a few bob in the end but not much,i dont drive a car so the saving was more or less wiped out having to bring it back home by a local courier.

If the package was sent from the Netherlands and it's full of weed, you lost out, they're waiting for you to come in and get arrested. If you ignore the package I think they can't do anything to you.

If it's coming from outside the EU, like China. Then it's coming from China, it doesn't matter where it get's routed through, it's still coming from China and they'll want duty paid on it.

I just came across your blog post regarding this yellow label on a parcel received from overseas.
Mine read “Goods not fulfilling the conditions prescribed by Articles 9 and 10 of the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community”.

I just wanted to let you know that these labels are sticked to parcels of goods that :
    – do not originate from the EC (mine came from China)
    – but are transported in Europe by some european operator (mine was carried by postnl)

It’s getting more common for european post operators to offer deals to chinese (and others) exporters, for cheaper delivery of their parcels inside EC.

The sticker means that, despite the parcel looking like it originates from the EU (as is mandated by european postal operators “peering” deals, I suppose), it does, in fact, not. As a consequence, the goods shall not be treated as “import tariffs free” (like intra european exchange, as explained by articles 9 and 10), and the receiving country shall apply any import duty just like it would have done if it was a direct import.

Of course for small parcels/values, they do not bother.

    Since you’re the only reference to such thing I found googling it, you might want to update your blog entry for the poor souls looking for an answer ;

The fee will only be small and administrative.

You should collect it by bringing photo ID and proof of address, so they know for sure that it's you :)

That just makes it worse. Evading tax on food stuffs is treason in this country.

They have to complete a customs entry for the shipment, and An Post pay out the money up front to customs.
