You need the correct satnav disc for that model. Doesn't matter what European region you use. Once the disc is in it'll boot up as normal, you can take out the disc again and it'll work away as it did before.
Needs to be a genuine disc for it to work IIRC

Thanks. would a garage have one to reboot it for me or do I have to buy one and if so are they expensive

A lot of Toyota garages around 2006 got a display stand with the double din satnav, parking sensors and Aygo upgraded speakers on it. These came with the satnav discs, so they may have one of these still out in display or being used as a radio somewhere in the garage.
Irish models didn't come with the satnav, so it's unlikely they would have them otherwise.

One way might be to find another uk Avensis for sale locally on donedeal and offer the seller €20 to borrow their nav disc for 5 minutes :)

They normally come with both the north Europe and east Europe discs IIRC.

There is a special re-boot disk just for this problem. Any good audio service dept should have one. Ask at your local garage as to where they get their radios repaired. The re-boot can only be done with the radio in the car . There is no need to buy a current sat nav disk
