2010 Renault Trafic - What's this part?

Hi. This is my 2010 Renault Trafic, showing underneath at the N/S front a tubular section bolted to the subframe.

As you can see it has sheared off, probably thanks to our bone-shaker of a lane out in the sticks. There's no obvious detrimental effect on handling but aside from the noisy clunk I'd like to put it right.

Looks like a straightforward job, just a bolt on each end, but I don't know what it's called!

    Can anyone help please?

    Many thanks
    Shaun

Not 100% sure if I'm right but a torsion bar maybe?

Looks like a suspension brace to me.

A brace of some sort anyway. Weld / get it welded. It doesn't look to be too rusted.

I'd say try and get a price from a dealership first. Bring a photo and they'll find the part guaranteed.

Thanks everyone, googling Snotaul Goodman's suggestion reveals that it is indeed a torsion bar. Brilliant, much appreciated!

I'll give Renault a call for prices but I suspect will be silly money. There are a few Trafic/Vivaro torsion bars listed on Ebay UK and we have friends coming over to stay in a couple of weeks so I might get it delivered to their house, I'm sure they would appreciate a boot full of rusty old crap!

    Cheers all

That's not a "Torsion bar". Torsion bars replace springs in a suspension and are solid bars.

That is, as Blackbox and ND point out, a suspension brace. It looks in good shape apart from the break.

Just get it welded by someone competent and it will be fine. It's cheaper and easier, than getting replacement parts.

Don't drive around with it broken like that. It'll drop down and get caught in something and create a bigger problem.

Great, thank you. Good point about potential for it dropping, snagging and either tearing a great rut in the road, or the underside of the van! I had a prop shaft shear off once as I was tearing down the M62 between Liverpool and Manchester, mashed up the underside of an old Escort! I have now removed the rearmost, forward pointing section and will see about getting the tube welded in the village next week.

    Thanks all!
