Haven't used them myself but they get regular mention on here: http://fermoygarage.com/

Should be able to get about 220bhp and a good bit more torque.

    I'm from clare,
I got my A6 remapped in dublin by Joe Power. (Apt name)
Its remapped now 2 years and no issues.
He has a Dyno up there to measure the performance before and after.
He is well known for remapping.

For the sake of a bit of drive which I'm sure you will enjoy on the way back :D
    Go to someone proven.
I think i paid 350euro for the pleasure.

Clondrinagh Mtr Works, Ennis Rd. Limerick do this type of work. I don't have a BMW so I can't advise on the price etc. They deal mainly in BMW's. Tel no 061 329369. BTW I have no connection with that company. I have gotten a couple of jobs done with them.

I went to Dublin from Limerick to get a car remapped previously as he has a great reputation. You might find some donedeal guy working out of a local Aldi carpark with a laptop and map he got off the web for convenience. But there is no way I'd be letting him fiddle with my car's ECU.

I wouldn't recommend them for remapping. They don't have a dyno either.

Be sure to inform your insurance company too, because should it be involved in an accident, they can and will pull the data off the ecu.

You get More power, more torque , better drive ability as in the pick up at lower revs will be better.
My A6 was horrible at Low revs,
    especially noticeable in1st,2nd,3rd
The remap has cured that so the pick up is a lot better there.
Power before the remap was 168bhp and 200bhp after and a wider torque curve which makes the car nicer to drive.

Does anyone have experience on the impact of insurance cost increase due to declaring this?

+1 on the insurance, I personally hate the insurance industry but they hold the purse strings. There was a guy on national radio about a year back, I think he had a 3 series but it got stolen. Eventually it was found but badly damaged and written off. The insurance company got hold of it, checked the ecu and found it had been chipped/remapped/tuned whatever you want to call it. Because it wasn't declared to them, they didn't pay out. I think he was down about 30 grand.

Do insurance companies do this to every crashed car? If not then what triggers them to do specific cars?
Have you any experience of this happening?

    Thanks..

Only someone in insurance industry will be able to tell you for sure but if they think they can get out of a big pay out they will check.

Were they able to prove that it hadn't been remapped by a previous owner or the thieves themselves????

I remember checking for mine and as long as it was within 15% of an increase it was fine..any higher and your insurance would go up.

Just power wise so the OP knows. A friend of mine recently got his e60 remapped by joe power in dublin. The car is now making 213bhp up from 177. Not 100% sure on the torque but there is a very noticable difference in how the car drives! Alot more torque !

Ya that's what I'm looking for thanks

The onus is probably on the insured person to know if their car was remapped by a previous owner.

As for the thieves remapping it, that would be an interesting conversation!

But I do see where you are coming from.

A friend of mine bought a car and the previous owner never told them it was remapped/had the dpf removed. Only found out when the garage told him

Any idea how much that particular remap was?

You will pay between €300 and €400 for a remap including dyno run.

Caveat emptor that is called. In a legal sense probably the same as telling them brakes are new or tyres are legal when in fact they are not. Up to the driver to know. But I will concede brakes and tyres can be visually checked whereas ecu needs expertise.

I believe it is still obligatory for private sellers (as well as dealers) to be honest when selling but it's such a grey area I don't want to start that discussion, the OP just wants a 520d remapped and asked for recommendations
